Bird Services

Did you know there are over 18,000 different species of birds? These winged creatures have been some of man’s closest friends for thousands of years – even the Ancient Egyptians kept parrots and other birds as pets. At Bank Street, we want to help bird lovers continue this long tradition. If you have any questions or concerns about your bird’s health, please do not hesitate to call us at 613.695.2060.

What kind of services do you have for pet birds?

At this time, we offer ONLY nail and beak trims. If you require other services for your pet bird, please give us a call so we can refer you to trusted veterinary teams in the area.

How often do pet birds need to see the vet?

We recommend you take your bird to the hospital for a complete exam at least once per year. Birds are just like dogs, cats or any other type of pet. They need constant monitoring to ensure they are in good health, any conditions are managed properly, and that underlying issues are detected early on.

How do I know if my pet bird is sick?

It’s important to remember all birds are different. Some may be sick and display no signs of illness at all. That being said, if you notice any of the symptoms below, please call the veterinarian right away as it may be a sign of distress in your pet bird.

  • Not eating for more than 24 hours
  • Closed or half-closed eyes
  • Swollen eyes
  • Lethargy
  • Aggression
  • Dull/shedding/rumpled feathers
  • Laboured breathing
  • Lying at the bottom of the cage
  • Refusal to leave their perch/nest

What is the best food for pet birds?

We suggest you seek your veterinarian’s advice so you can feed your bird the food most suited to them. Be that as it may, most birds have a diet that consists of pellets, fruits, vegetables and seeds.
