What is laser therapy used for in pets?

In the veterinary world laser may be recommended by your veterinarian as a complementary or main therapy for conditions such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Chronic pain
  • Post-surgery recovery
  • Sprains, injuries and other orthopedic conditions
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Wound repair
  • Infections
  • Cystitis
  • Feline acne
  • Dental issues
  • Ear infections
  • and more

How does laser therapy work in pets?

Although each laser device is different, most of them work by emitting concentrated light beams that stimulate certain cellular reactions inside your pet’s body. This process is called photostimulation. Some of the direct effects of treatment are the release of natural pain killers in the body, as well as cell activation to treat inflammation, jumpstart wound repair and improve circulation.

Is laser therapy safe for pets?

Yes. We make sure patients wear protective sunglasses to shield their eyes from the light. No numbing cream or anesthesia is needed as it is a painless procedure. In fact, laser has a soothing effect and it is common for pets to fall asleep during their therapy!
