Imaging exams like those performed through ultrasounds and X-rays are mainstays in veterinary medicine. They are safe and non-invasive tools used to diagnose all types of health conditions. They can even be used as tools for certain operations (e.g., ultrasound-guided biopsies). Here at Bank Street, we use only the most updated devices to ensure safe and accurate readings. If you would like to learn more about our ultrasound and X-ray services, please give us a call at 613-695-2060.
Are ultrasounds and X-rays safe for pets?
Yes. Both scans are pain-free and entirely non-invasive. The amount of radiation emitted from X-rays is also miniscule. Puppies, kittens and even pregnant pets can safely get ultrasounds and X-rays. Pets usually do not need sedation during their scan but if your pet is particularly anxious or if they have aggressive tendencies, we may proceed with sedation to prevent unnecessary stress on your pet.
Why do vets use ultrasounds and X-rays?
If your pet is presenting symptoms that cannot be diagnosed at the outset, these scans can help confirm the specific condition your pet may have. They can help detect fractures, strains, cancers, tumours, heart and lung problems, dental decay, arthritis and more.
